How do you provision your berth for a night aboard? Are sleeping bags adequate, or do you go whole hog for fitted and top sheets, mattress pad, comforter, and more? Perhaps the foam pad is enough? Lay out your sleeping scheme then vote in the Quick Quiz on the home page.

We use Travasaks!

We purchased Travasaks for our boat. It is a sleeping bag with sheets. They have a winter side and a summer side. Makes a good alternative to traditional sleeping bags with some added warmth and they are easy to stow.

Sheets and blankes

I prefer fitted sheets for the aft birth and flat sheets in the v birth. the blankets and sheets go to the laundramat easily every couple of trips,, also send the pillows through the dryer for a refreshening Just kinda like the comforts of home when I'm out for a couple of days

Plllows and Sheets and Blankets

Sheets and blankets are a must for the admiral and as much home comforts as possible. I am not as picky with the comforts on the bed, sometimes when on the boat alone I just flop on the bed with what ever, doesn't take much for me to fall asleep at night. We do keep on board extra sheets blankets and pillows for guest and I think we even have a sleeping bag only for emergences. Nick

comfortable berth

The first thing we did was replace the foam in the cushions with ultra foam, medium softness. We then put a 2inch memory foam pad on top of the cushions. We sleep on a featherbead from LL Bean with a comforter on top. This is very comfortable. We flip the featherbead and end for end it each day. It is covered with a zip on cover that we take home and wash. Surprisingly, the featherbead is not hot to sleep on in the summer and it is very warm on cold nights. We came up with this system because of all the back problems associated with sleeping on the boat. The back problems are gone. Alice A.

sheets...

Luckily for me, my wife suffers from the Princess and the Pea syndrome, which just makes my sleeping more enjoyable. Extra thick mattress pad. Sheets are the highest thread count we can find in a 50/50 blend, to fend off the dampness. Multiple thin comforters and feather pillows. Our son suffers/enjoys the same, so if they are happy, i am in heaven. J&R

Bury me in memory foam when I die

A giant over size sleeping bag is on top of a memory foam system and I would never do with out the memory foam again. The factory cushins are just too hard. Pillows are a must as well.

Two Glasses of Wine and I'll See You in the Morning

Sheets are a must if for no other reason than to protect the cushions. A pillow is also required. Beyond that, maybe a sheet if it's hot or sleeping bag when it's cold. And the two glasses of wine of course. Did I mention earplugs for everyone else aboard?

Sheets, Blankets, Pillows, and Foam

I cut a foam matress pad to fit my V-Berth. It was a good addition. I use a king-sized fitted sheet to go over the cushions and then a regular sheet on top. A blanket covers the whole thing. It doesn't work too bad as long as my wife doesn't kick me in her sleep (only downside of a V-Berth).

sleeping bags

Usually use sleeping bags zipped together, easier to lay out and make up vs sheets in confined spaces. More concerned with transom slap and neighbors halyards on windy nights.

sleeping bags

Hello, We spend a few weekends aboard (2-3) and 1 week vacation. It's easier to throw 5 sleeping bags aboard and spread them out at the end of the day than to bother with sheets, blankets, and making beds. The PO of my boat had a real mattress modified to fit the vberth. It's as comfortable as my bed at home. The kids don't seem to mind the regular cushions. Barry

Fitted sheets, blanket, comforter and pillow.

I run the A/C to cool or to at least lower the humidity. I sleep better in the boat than I probably do at home so I look forward to sleeping on the boat. On the other hand if you force your body to sleep uncomfortably it will remember and pretty soon it will start sending subliminal messages to your brain saying " you don't really want to spend the night out tonight, we'll do it some other time"

This is a wonderful example of how a simple

story can get screwed up. The princess did not sleep under the matresses. She had to sleep on TOP of them because she was of such a delicate nature that just a dried pea placed under her mattress disturbed her rest. The dogs sleep under the matresses on the floor.

Better than home

I would go for the sleeping bag and anything for a pillow... wife brings sheets and down pillows. Six pack of beer and a sub would do... no, we have wine, cheese and the stove/oven is going with snacks before. I would be happy listening to the VHF... no, we have an I-POD. You get the idea... I am very well cared for!

WOW! I feel spoiled!

The stock Hunter pads were so hard, we installed the FROLI system under the pads, a 2 1/2" memory foam pad on top, then fitted sheets and blankets (it gets cold in Maine)-more comfortable than our waterbed at home, adn you get rocked to sleep!

Layering

For May to October on Georgian Bay and the North Channel conditions naturally change. My wife and I layer up the bedding. Full summer maybe as little as a beach towel, but progressively through the season a lightweight fleece bag to a -5c sleeping bag and lastly the 2 combined as one bag. All summer covered with just the right layer to suit the individual. Arthur Griffiths
