Beneteau first 305 New Owner Questions :)

Hi Guys,

So I ended up buying the beneteau first 305; got it for 20k, appraisal value came out to be 30k and I am pretty sure the appraiser didn't include things like the fact that I have autopilot and an uninstalled radar unit as part of the appraisal.

Took it out yesterday for the first time while taking sailing lessons and am learning the nuances of using the jib at 45 degree angles for forward momentum when wind direction is aft.

Was hoping you guys could clue me in on a few things (a lot of these question will be stupid):
1) When I hook up the charger to the boat how do I confirm that the boats getting electricity? I had turned the (black, red, red) in the off setting so it wouldn't draw power from the battery but couldn't figure if there was an 'on' switch to accept power from the dock port once you plug in the yellow cable (please bare with me since this is my first sail boat, period).

2) There is a minor drip in the 9 gallon fuel tank copper fuel line, i think the source is the bolt that holds the copper line to the fuel tank (at the bottom). How easy a fix is this? I am used to seeing these types of cables in hot water plumbings. Also, is there any point in getting a bigger than 9 gallon fuel tank?

3) These pictures were taken underneath the sleep area on the stern side of the boat below where the steering wheel is in the area between the engine and the water heater. I frankly have no idea what I'm looking at (at the pink - i think its antifreeze?) but why would you put it there? And what do I do with it?

There was also a little wetness, you can see it in the pic, near the engine, i could not say if the wetness was because I was rough riding the boat when sailing and so the antifreeze jumped or whether its salt water or just moisture?

I think this is it.

Thanks again guys!

Hi.
On question number one, you should have on your nav station a fuse/switch indicator that shows you have "good power" after you plug in your power cable (the yellow thing). That will tell you that you have power to the boat. There is such a thing as reverse polarity indicator, same place, which is red. There also should be a fuse/switch for your battery charger. I will post a picture of my panel as soon as I get to the dock. I have O321.

As for your third question- that looks like the pink antifreeze that's used for winterizing the fresh water system and sometimes engine raw water system. It may have been left there after a messy previous winterization. I'd say to dry it up and see if it reappears. Often it will "hide" between the hull and liner in invisible places and then run out when you sail at various heel angles.

Here are the photos of my panel to give you a visual of what I was talking about. Note the AC power indicator with the reverse polarity indicator below. Ask other questions and I will try to answer what I can.

Thanks, will give that a try -- my reception sucks when I'm at the harbor and the harbor is 2-hours drive so will know for sure when I'm back there on Friday. Will clean up that excess mess and see if it comes back. I do not think the previous owners 'dewinterized' the boat since the faucets still running coolant.
