Beneteau 331, Screw at rub rail?

I have a screw at the stern rub rail (middle/bottom). It sticks down about an inch below the bottom of the boat. It does not hold the rub rail in place. What is this for?

Pretty sure that shouldn't be there, that's a drain hole
That hole exists to allow excess water to drain from behind the front edge of the stern rub rail.
Not essential, not a perfect solution, but it keeps gunk from accumulating. Why a screw would be placed there is a question.

Haha, okay I see what happened now. The previous owner must have seen the hole thinking a fastener was missing and just put one in..

That is a typical response for a BMW... Boat Marine Worker.

You're walking by the end of the boat. Look up and happen to see a hole. Natural reaction... Fill it. See a screw on the ground near the boat... Oh..:yikes: it must have fallen out of the hole... Screw it in.

That would be my theory...

I'd put a D shackle there, so you have somewhere to attach a second dingy painter or a crab pot. Or to tow another boat with in an emergency

Mystery solved and all, but as long as we're looking at the bottom of your boat...no bottom paint?

Yeah no paint. Will probably have to keep it that way it seems. Some environmental rule for the lake Marina yards (unless i transport it somewhere and have it done..)

Wow! Can’t the yards place plastic sheeting under the boat and use vacuum assisted sanding? Or, is it a concern of anti fouling paint leaching into the water while the boat is underway or in the slip?
