Beneteau 323 holding tank - is it full??

Hello all, when sailing/anchoring with family, I find it anxiety-inducing to monitor the holding tank through guesswork. Early in the filling process it's low risk to hold my breath, unscrew the black port cover, and check the level. Later in the process, this is a *very* risky procedure. Why didn't they make a transparent cover or strip up the side so quick visual inspection is all that is required? Has anyone found a solution for this problem?

SCAD monitors work so you don’t need to do the gag inspection.

Is that plastic tank translucent? Mine is. I hold a flashlight (turned on) over the top and I can see the level of the contents.

I have a similar problem and installation with the holding tank on my Beneteau 311. I have found that a long reed, this stick, or dowel makes a good depth probe for the holding tank. Just open up the deck pumpout fitting and see how far below the deck is the liquid level is.
