Beating the heat

This morning we started out at 43 deg F and heated up quickly. This is the current conditions in the image below.

JD, Thanks for sending us the extreme temp swings and fair winds. Unfortunately I have to work weekdays. No sailing until Sunday.

Will very weathered teak rails and non-carbon fiber sails ever make me a chick magnet on a boat that was made three years after I graduated from High School?

Some people have gorgeous gleaming brightwork on their sailboat, Jack has gorgeous gleaming women on his sailboat. Well done Jack!

Exactly. I am not sure how Jackdaw keeps his mind on sailing. I would be looking for a good place to drop the hook! ;)

I would consider going out if it was under a hundred. On the bright side I did get my boat registered again. Also ordered the stupid fuel connector fitting for my "new" 2000 Honda 15 that is on my O'Day 23. Another couple months and I will be able to take it out again.

Jackdaw, thank you for sharing those wonderful pictures with the two of you sailing. I have been sailing a lot to cardiac rehab with the air conditioner in my truck broken which was recently replaced. However I do have air conditioning with the windows rolled down for that 45 min. ride to and from. Ok Kermit, now for your pun you slimy green rascal.

OK after a flurry of IMs yes, Jodi is my partner. Many of you knew of (or knew) Pia; we are still friends and are still on occasion racing together; but that has sadly proven harder than we had hoped. On the happy side, Jo and I get along very well indeed, and I'm loving life.
Warren Buffett said it very well (oops i mean Jimmy) " Changes in Latitudes"

Thanks guys for the nice comments. The wholesome looking crew thing... That just happened. Jodi is a water gal but new to sailing... But loving it so far. And being a math teacher she totally get the science behind the fun. Yesterday our heat wave continued, 100F with nasty dew points and scant breeze. Our RC postponed our evening race AT THE DOCK and ended abandoning it the same way. We (and maybe a dozen boats) went out to swim, clean bottoms, have a beer, listen to music, and even occasionly put up a sail when a sustained puff came down the lake. Great times. Today the 95+ stuff is supposed to break. About time!

As long as your dawg can stand the ride you're ok. I mean, every pickup has a dawg, right?

Hey, my sailing partner is a math geek too! Between her having a masters degree in math and me being an engineer, we wanted to name our new boat Bernoulli but the kids hated it.

Here in Florida by 5AM we had cooled to 80F. The Gulf water temperature is 90F. Humidity fluctuates between 70% and 100%. No wind to fill the sails so I guess I will stay inside in the A/C today.

We considered retiring in Florida. You're making me glad we decided elsewhere. ;)

Hs been pretty hot here in Louisiana too.. more so than normal.. As a kid I remember the old folks here saying that the only way the heat would go away is if a hurricane came through.. I am watching the tropics and south Gulf carefully..The heat is the penance for not having to shovel snow in the winter..when we are sailing..

That's cool; that's our exact situation as well. After our first real sail I shared this with her, she loved it.

I had to open the KQED video in YouTube to view. Good stuff. Notice how that Beneteau 35 has reefed Main and Genoa to match the conditions, and keep the boat on her feet.
