Saturday mission was (among lots of things) to take the boat to locall kandfill to use their scales. This way, when I give/sell the boat to one of the kids to make room for a P23 I can tell them "It only weighs 1900 lbs, you don`t need my truck to pull it!"

Bearing buddy has thrown grease up on the port side of boat. Plastic covers to slip on axles at West Marine today, 1.983 Dia. was too small(but not by much) or 2.441 Dia. too big by a lot. Does an intermediatte size exist, if so where? Let the answers rain in !! Thanks Dave Coughlin

Here is what I did for my utility trailer. Its a spray paint can lid taped on with electrical tape. Fancy eh. It works. The other side has a red one. The can of black wasn't quite empty. If there is a small vent hole in the lid just put a screw in it.

It depends on the brand as you have 1.98 bearings. Some are made too small and that is a problem with foreign made dust covers as sometimes they goof and go by metric vs standard.

You are Over Filling Them

When adding grease to a "Buddy Bearing" stop when the diaphram just starts to move. Many guys will fill them untill grease comes out the weep hole. The weep hole is to relieve pressure so as to not blow out the rear seal which should be checked also. If they are not over filled they will not sling grease with or without a cap.

Re: You are Over Filling Them

That`s what happened here. I overfilled them and stupidly did not wipe off the excess before I went on the road. So, Kenn, I had grease all piled up around the grease fitting, that`s what went flying. I`ll keep everything cleaner now. Thanks all for your ideas and suggestions. Dave

I,ve picked up covers that work at Walmart. They're bit short so I secure them with a couple of wraps of electrical tape (orange makes me happy) to be certain they won't leak or fly off.
