Looking for any advice on reasonable accommodations in Bermuda. I'll be crewing on the Annapolis-Bermuda race soon (one way trip, fly back to job.) I want to talk my girlfriend into flying there so we can spend some days and fly back together. I see lots of expensive tourist joints and a few cheapies on the websites... anyone know what the decent but reasonable choices are? I don't think she wants to share a quarterberth with molding foulies while there.

Aunt nea"s

Last year with several other boats I sailed to Bermuda to St George's and docked at the Dingy Club. Several of my crew and with my wife we stayed at Aunt Nea's bread and breakfast, just of the main street. Breadfast was avaliable, air conditrioned, and we enjoyed the accomodations. While Bermuda was not inexpensive, we found Aunt Nea's very accomodating, and the dingy club just great. Contact me at briarcrest@juno if you need any help. Enjoy the sail and contact me ditect at briarcestr@juno. com if you need any additional info. I've made the trip twice and loved it.

As it turns out, the arrangements will not be needed but I'll explain for others that might face similar crewing opportunities. Being an alternate crew member, I wasn't called upon until near the race date. This means getting a passport fast, clearing the dates with my employer, and making island/hotel/plane connections. Since I'm leaving the country without a ticket, I purchased the return ticket to show the passport people tangible plans. Regular airlines were $550, but the USA3000 airline is $109. The catch was the flights are on fridays and tuesdays; friday was too soon to count on docking, so I will depart on tuesday. Had to renegotiate that with my boss, and make sure the boat wasn't leaving Bermuda before then. Several other crew members are on the same flight; I guess we will sleep on deck when the return-trip crews arrive. With so many boats heading there before hurricane season, and summer vacations starting, the hotel spaces were drying up fast. The girlfriend won't be back from LA in time, so major bucks were conserved and there's time left over for sightseeing. This offshore stuff can get complicated quick.
