Thanks Alan
As it turns out, the arrangements will not be needed but I'll explain for others that might face similar crewing opportunities. Being an alternate crew member, I wasn't called upon until near the race date. This means getting a passport fast, clearing the dates with my employer, and making island/hotel/plane connections.Since I'm leaving the country without a ticket, I purchased the return ticket to show the passport people tangible plans. Regular airlines were $550, but the USA3000 airline is $109. The catch was the flights are on fridays and tuesdays; friday was too soon to count on docking, so I will depart on tuesday. Had to renegotiate that with my boss, and make sure the boat wasn't leaving Bermuda before then. Several other crew members are on the same flight; I guess we will sleep on deck when the return-trip crews arrive. With so many boats heading there before hurricane season, and summer vacations starting, the hotel spaces were drying up fast. The girlfriend won't be back from LA in time, so major bucks were conserved and there's time left over for sightseeing. This offshore stuff can get complicated quick.
