I'm about to buy two new batteries for Spring Fever (Mark 2 Vega) and have just thought about a dimension problem which I may have: -

The batteries are 110 amp/hr and their size is apparently 302mm long x 172mm wide x 220mm high. (12" x 6.75" x 8.66")

Having an extended battery bay, I know there's sufficient length for them overall, my concern is as to whether these longer batteries will 'snag' in the floor hatch as I slide them in? Anybody got a battery this long/high in their Vega and able to confirm it goes in?

Bob,
My batteries are 13" (length) X 6.75" (width) X 9.25" (height with
posts) and I store them in the forward bilge. They are a little snug
moving in and out...but do fit.

Hi.
Following advice from many on this forum (thanks again) I went out to my
Vega today to check whether the tiller (as I suspected) was not centered
correctly.

I found that the tapered pin -as predicted by posters here - was broken
and that, once the pinch bolt (with Allen key head) was loosened, the
tiller head could rotate freely.

I rotated the tiller head to what I believe is correct, based on two
criteria:

1) the tiller can now be rotated equally from the central position both
port to stbd and the stop position is symmetric.

2) the cylindrical rudder post that is secured to the tiller head by the
above-mentioned pinch bolt with hex (Allen key) head has a chord cut from
it. The new tiller position has this chord "athwartship" - ie
port-to-stbd. It was offset by about 30 degrees...

I have now retightened the pinch bolt and look forward to testing the new
configuration - along with my tp10! -...

I look forward to going for a sail when the Spring (eventually) comes..

Simple and Fool proof method:
Before I bought my two new golf cart batteries I made up a cardboard
& tape box the same size as a battery and tried to slide it into the
compartment. After a little minor surgery under the lip of the box,
with a Swiss Army knife, the box slid in with just enough clearance.

It would be wise to replace the pin, too. 'They' would not have put
one in if it wasn't needed!

Hello folks,Debonair (V1619) is away from me and I will not be able access her for at least a week.::).I have to replace (what the Americans would call) the house batteries and need to know what is the maximum size (in linear measurement terms) that will fit under the saloon floor - I am hoping to get two batteries of at least 75A/Hr, preferably larger, under the saloon floor, plus an existing 100A/Hr starting battery which will live below the cockpit floor.Also, I would also like to make contact with other Vega sailors who are also licenced amateurs and operate /MM.ThanksGeoff

I have two groupe 27 wet cell batteries under th cabin sole in my
boat.They are my house batteries. My starting Battery is in the
Starboard cockpit locker. That seems to work well. My Vega was
built in 73.
I am thinking to install a SSB transceiver in the fall with solar
panels. I may add another battery if I seem to need more. Doug

Hi Geoff,On my Series One Vega I installed, in the bilge battery compartment, two 6-volt deep cycle golf cart batteries, connected in series, for my house battery. This gives a good capacity. The only thing I had to do was whittle a thin strip off the underside of the aft end of the opening to allow me to slide the first battery aft under the floor. I went online and got measurements from the manufacturer, and made a cardboard mock-up ... just to be sure.Peterwww.mostlyaboutboats.ca

I installed two golf cart batts in there. they are slightly taller than the group 27 but you get more amp hrs. Richard
