I own a 1975 O'Day 25. I recently purchased a new Yamaha outboard 9.9 HP. It weighs about 110 pounds. I have two batteries, starter and house, located in the lazarette. With the weight of these three items, and several people in the cockpit, it seems as though the boat is too heavy in the stern. I was thinking about moving the batteries to balance the load better and considering putting them under one of the quarter berths. Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts ot this?

I have an oday 25 with a 9.9 yamaha high thrust. I installed two agm 6 volt batteries in a battery box under the cockpit. The batteries are just aft of the cabin bulkhead. AGM batteries do not require as much maintenance as lead-acid batteries. I have to remove/loosen the lag bolts holding the box in place to maintenance the batteries. The install was done using pressure treated 2x4s bolted thru the stringers running parallel to the water line.
I had an O'day 25 for 5 years. Sounds like the OB has power tilt? (Going by the weight) Very nice choice.
The stern on my 25 always did squat down under power, especially under full throttle. I usually would slowly increase power until I saw little increase in speed, then back off a little. Any throttle over that would cause more squat and be a waste of fuel.
I also kept the water tank empty. We just used bottled water.
I never considered moving the one Grp 24 battery I had in the lazarette. Since you have two batteries moving them forward might help. If I was going through that effort I think I would move them as far forward as I could. Just keep in mind you need to use big cables to limit voltage drop.
