Here is a questions for your winch wizards.
I have a couple of pre-1983 winches. When I look a the exploded parts image,
ST23 Barient Parts Exploded.jpg

Piece #10 in above image identifies 2 Roller Bearings. When splayed my winches on the table I found one roller bearing and one solid bronze piece that serves as the second bearing. They appear to work. Any insight into this divergence from the parts image?
Thanks.

The chances are very high that at some point in the 40 year history of your winch a bearing set went bad and someone got the bright idea to replace it with a bushing.

Thanks.
It makes sense.
I have a pair of 22's and they have two roller bearings. I think they are about the same size. I have the winches at the house to do a "degreasing". Do not know what it is with think that winches are best served with extra helpings of grease. So think the pawls did not move. Like peanut butter slathered in every nook and cranny of the winch housing.
Once cleaned out I'll see if they match the bearings on the ST23. If not I understand there is an outfit in Australia that is making parts for Barient winches.
