Recently, I have had several people on the dock or at race meetings, tell me I should add a backstay or runners to my boat, a 2000 Hunter 340 with a B & R rig with no backstay. I know it's a bad idea, the hull and rig are not designed for one and who knows what it could mess up. Runners maybe, if I could get crew that could manage them, my crew only seems to be able to manage to get another beer during races.
But, it got me wondering, with all the different size Hunters out there with "backstayless" B & R rigs, has anyone ever tried to add a backstay or running backstays to their boat? And how did it turn out?
No way I would ever do it, but..., just wondering.
