I tricked mine real good. When we met she thought it was great that I had a canoe. 10 years and 3 sailboats later...
We still have the canoe too.

We have a canoe and used to use it often; since our marriage to the sailboat
not so much.

currently boatless wishing Harrington Harbor North, MD
So we are moving the boat from Quantico VA to Harrington harbor north to have her hauled out. Long 4 day weekend in October so we had planned to take our time on the last cruise of the season. Friday the weather report says deterorating conditions and looking like not much fun if we take our time. We both agree to "get er done" and spend 18 hours motoring. Winds are 0-5 knots and things are going great if not a bit cool in the cockpit. The First Mate is reading her kindel and providing general coffee, conversation and spelling me for head calls. Outto has the helm and I'm just providing a look out and new courses as we move down the river. About midnight we reach the bottom of the Potomac and point lookout. Lots of fetch and reflecting wave patterns, winds have been 15+ down here for a while and waves are 2ish feet. The dingy is in tow and doing well. Fast forward to the natural gas dock north of the Patuxiant R. where the current, wind and waves all conspire to make it a slug for the last 20 nm. Dingy still back there but doing fine. waves about 3 ft. About 0900 I notice that the dingy has stopped making noise, turn to find no dingy. Painter parted and she is sailing nicely at about 5 knots the wrong direction. turn the boat and catch her while the First Mate puts on her PFD. On the third attempt to snag the dingy with the boat hook she latches on and a wave promptly pulls her off the boat and into the water........ all is well about 5 minutes later if not a little wet and cold. she had every stitch of cloths she brought and the boat has been cleaned out for the haul out so there are just my thermal pants and the wet weather gear to put on. Nothing dry for her feet can be found. For the next 4 hours she troopered on with out a complaint even though her feet are freezing and she is chilled to the bone.
After we got the boat docked and ready for haul and are in the car with heater on full hot she confessed that she was really cold and the feeling is coming back to her feet finally.

A real sailor this one, and cute too
