I'm looking for a recommendation for an automatic bilge pump to install on my O'Day 27. Anyone have experience in this area?

Thanks for the suggestion! Yes, I agonize over putting another hole in the hull. I'll keep it high and on the stern quarter.

I remember seeing an article in Good Old Boat about bilge pumps. One thing they talked about was that raising the outlet higher reduces the pumping capacity of the pump. Just something to think about.

I will. I've been thinking about eliminating the vanity sink and replacing it with cabinets & drawers. I could re-purpose the vanity hull-thru for the bilge pump.

I know this won't be popular but;
There are only 2 kinds of leaks
1) small- overhead or the like, or less than 5 gallons per day
2) large- hose lets go or the like 500+ gallons per hour or more
Then
If you have #1 situation and the pump keeps the visible water down to a gallon or less, then you won't know you have a leak, and will do nothing untill the leak becomes a #2 leak. Then the batteries go flat trying to keep up with this major influx and the boat sinks. Better to keep the float switch high or leave off the float switch entirely and just have the electric bilge pump wth a manual off and on. If you come to the boat and the floor boards are floating you will definitely know you have a leak. If you never see water in the bilge you'll do nothing untill the leak gets to #2 and sinking occurs since no known bidge pump wiill keep up with #2 for very long.

I have it wired so that Auto is on at anytime the battery switch is in an on position, with a pop out type circuit breaker (i.e. it cannot be turned off, only reset if it trips) and then I have a manual switch installed on the main panel.
