Was 2004 a good sailing year for you? How many days did you get out on your boat? Did you buy a new boat or make some significant improvements to your old one? Did you get out on any long cruises or learn any new skills? If you are a racer, did you have a successful year? Share your 2004 sailing experiences and be sure to vote in the Quick Quiz on the bottom of the home page. (This quiz is the 124th, and last, to be contributed by Gary Wyngarden; please see related article)

04 an awesome year

04 was a great year. We made a change in life style. We moved onboard and left to the Caribbean. It has been a year of sailing, meeting new people, seeing new places, and learning and expericing new things. Life is meant to be lived!! Happy New Year.

Good but nest year shoule be better

This Summer was good. We were out sailing 62 times< I keep a very informal log of our sailing adventures. However, next year should be better. I retired in Sept, lived on the boat for a few months while we found a new home in New Bern, NC and moved our house hold goods from NY southward. Unfornately it was then too late to sail the boat to NC. ( too cold for us anyway ) Next spring we will take her on her longest sail yet. We plan to spend 3 to 3 weeks exploring the Chesapeake Bay before entering the ICW. Then we spend most of our free time sailing our C 320. Happy New Year John & Kathy s/v Lady K jsail320@cox.net

to much work not enough fun

This last year was more work than I wanted For my new years resalution I made up my mind that You will be more disapointed by the things that you didn't do than by the things you did. So I will cast off the bow line and sail away from safe harbors and vow to make it happen. Life is short Plan to enjoy it.

Lost our boat to Hurricane Charley

We had a great year in 2004. Many cruises including two months in the Bahamas. Hurricane Charley put our neighbors mast onto our boat doing much damage. We took one last cruise of 2004 to St Petersburg to Sailors Wharf for repair. The boat has been out of the water in a cradle since September waiting for repair. Hopefully we might get it back in January. Happy New Year everybody! Bill

Not nearly enough!

A long time in coming, but I finally received my Masters (with Assist Towing) Rating. 2005 is projected to be a much better sailing year, as I shall quit my day-job and leave the 'Gainfully Employed" world behind, to become--I pray--a "River Cruiser", at least part time. I have lots of work to do on the boat, and so little time to spend on it. WORK, bain of the leasure class, sure gets in the way of boating. Here's to a much better 2005 to all, CJ S.V. Doxology

Still Sailing in AZ

The weather is still pretty good in Arizona. Daytime highs are plenty warm enough to comfortably sail with a jacket on and truth is, this IS the sailing in AZ. Winds in the winter are much better than summer with the temp. gradient throughout the day. I sail a C-22 in Lake Havasu. Bought a C-30 this year moored in San Diego. Still looking forward to sailing there. Can't see the "winter" being a problem in So. Cal. as long as it isn't raining.

Good First Year

It was good year for us and the Flying Crane. We acquired the 18-foot Capri in June and really did not start sailing much to August. However, once we did, we were able to sail at least every weekend in August, September and October as well as several in November and even once in December. We hope to take her out again in January, once the Christmas decorations come down. We spent several nights out on the Potomac, including a 3-nighter. Our goal for next year is to reach the Chesapeake Bay and return – a trip of about 110 nautical miles one way. Every time we go out, we learn more about handling the boat and the river. We even got caught in a 20-knot wind and three-foot choppy waves. Our first experience in strong winds and waves -- learned a lot that day. We added several new features, depth gauge, compass, 30-amp pass through, electrical outlets in the cabin, some peg board for storage, and a permanent battery charger. Next year, we hope to replace the working jib with a Genoa and furling equipment.

Too busy with other things

Funny thing is I moved across Florida to be near my boat last Winter and sailed less this year than when I lived 200 miles away. So with the moving, and new jobs, and buying a house and working on it, and trying to work on the boat, and then all those hurricanes, I didn't get the time to sail. This year will be different...I have plans to go thru the boat this Winter and rewire and replumb...in the early Spring I change the running rigging and then I should be in good shape to spend some quality time on the water. I'm ready too!

Not bad; next year will be better

Traded up this year to a new 33, so that was good. Spent about as much time on it with a shorter season as last year's full season. But this coming year will see a trip to Block Island, maybe a circumnavigation of Long Island, and a lot more time in general on the boat, even if just enjoying it dockside. I can sympathize with Bill Bell; a friend in Punta Gorda lost the mast of their boat (what's the odds?), and they are going up to St Pete tomorrow to have it replaced.
