Hey Fred

Me thinks you be a Chevy man to the bone. And sometimes when so locked in to one brand, one tends to not see things with a lot of reality.

Easy, such as?

Spoken like a mustang lover! And I don't have any new Chevys. My Duramax is a GMC. (I know. Same thing) But it's an incredible machine in every category I can think of.

Fred, since you ask

I,m more of a mopar man myself. You stated that chevy's won all the races. Seems like I remember differently. There were some Holman/Moody Fords that were pretty damn fast. And a group out of Detroit who called themselves the Ramchargers would also probably disagree with you. No one brand EVER WON ALL the races. In the 60's & 70's just about every funny car on the circuit was powered by a Chrysler hemi. Today just about every top fuel car, and funny car is powered by a 500 inch aluminum version of a hemi. I'm not knocking chevy, or pushing Ford or Mopar, but I do recognize the facts. I don't consider my view to be the only view, as you seem to. And by the way, I won the AHRA nationals in 68, on a drag bike. 21 cubic inches of Yamaha power, running low to mid 11's, with a very occasional dip into the 10's. Speeds in the upper 120's. I do know a little bit about drag racing.

Cool, then you'll know I was talking about class racing.

You know; A/S B/S (A stock, B stock etc) And you also know that a hemispherical combustion chamber burns nitromethane better than other designs like open chamber big block Chev's. But funny cars are not class racers. Holman Moody. I thought they mostly did road race cars. And the Ramchargers didn't come of age until the modern Hemi came out. Even then they were very beat-able. Bill Jenkins found the famous weight break rule in pro stock and cleaned up against the Hemi in 1970. And lets not talk NASCAR. Those are just billboards and nobody wins unless NASCAR let's them. Easy, help me out with the Yamaha. Was that the Big Bear engine? On a custom frame?

Well then

Hemi's and nitro, HHHHHMMMMMMMMMM Hemi's do take to blowers much better than a wedge or open chambers, never heard that they burned nitro better. Are we picking nits about when the Ramchargers came about. You didn't seem to be picky about years or types of racing when you said " ALL THE RACES". Of course there is my all time favorite, the Speed Sport roadster from the late 50's. 331 inches of hemi power, carburated, no blower, running high 8's. Tell you what, take a walk through the Garlits museum, and count the number of Mopars, Chevys and Fords there. Everything from stockers, to pro stockers to dragsters, and you will see that the Chevys are far from the only make there. Hell, there are now 4 banger Honda civics turning 9's. My point is that you seem to think there isn't another brand made that is even to be considered for anything but a boat anchor. Chevy's are race winners, and very popular. Of course it could have something to do with the fact that they are plentiful, cheap, tons of info easily available and it takes a little more effort to make some others go as fast. I will give you credit in that you are at least honest about it all. I have had literally hundreds of people over the years who told me their little brand z street leagal coupe would turn in the 8's or 9's. I can easily accept your numbers as legit.

The Yamaha

Fred, My drag bike then started as a 305cc Yamaha Big Bear "scrambler" Ended up with the cylinders and heads as the only remaining 305 parts. Rest of it was all Yamaha TD1C factory road race stuff. This was sort of crammed into the frame of a Harley Hummer, which was a little bitty 125cc, with a springer front end, which used big rubber bands for suspension. It kind of liked to speed wobble, so I installed a friction type steering damper, and when on the line would crank it down till it was basically locked. This is when I was young and stupid. There isn't enough money to get me on that rig now.

The Brute is a 1970.

The engine is a reworked ZZ502. The heads were done along with a .686 272/272 solid roller cam, 1050 Dominator and 2" Hookers. That's a Nitrous Works Powerwing 400 shot DP unit into a Super Victor manifold. I'm using a standard HP waterpump. She'll have a TH-400 behind it when it's completed. She has a 12 bolt Moser full spool with 4.11 gears and 34 spline axles. I've still gotta do the cage and seats yet. Yep, I'll have her at Bremerton one of these days but I don't know about this year. She oughta put 850 or so to the ground so we're looking at 8.30's or so with a 3400# car we hope. The biggest issue is gonna be keeping the front end on the ground I think. Sorry about the hijack folks so back to your regularly scheduled thread.
