Have an atomic 4, gas motor. What weight oil and types are being recommended? The manual says 30 weight, but I have read some posts, and other info, that is recommending a multi weight like 10w-30w, particularly in the northern areas. I am in northern Michigan. Anyone have some experiences. thank, Mike

I for one use only 30W oil as suggested by Don Moyer and she runs great. Maybe a little MM oil could be added if you think 30W is too heavy (I've done this in FL when I had a sticky valve). -dennis

There is a difference

When looking for the right oil it seems to be easy but there is alot on the labels that people do not realize. Climate used does matter on what weight of motor oil you use. If you are using a motor oil for a diesel engine if you read the label and API (American petroleum institute) Label says it is rated for sj, sg or sf, the first letter S refers to Gasoline engines. If the label says it meets cf, cg and so on, the C refers to diesel engines. 15W 30 rated oil the W means winter and can be used in lower climates. I have been a diesel mechanic for many years and know that the diesel oils help reduce soot build up in the engine. If you intend to keep the engine for years to come it helps. Some people will say it makes no difference but check with the oil manufacturer. A 10W 30 would work great in lower climates on a gas engine.
