I'd suggest you grab Steve's 1000+...
Hayden, I had such a series of disappointing experiences with Simrad's (aka: Navico's) products and people that I would be reluctant to recommend their a/p's to anyone. Coincidentally, I just bought a new 1000+ to use with my wind vane (Steve, where were you when I needed you...!<g>) and I am impressed with the wiring, overall construction, and provided deck connection. My wife made a cover for it (your sailmaker or canvas person could do the same thing; includes a clear plastic window to view the LCD panel and buttons) which I'm convinced will extend its life many times over - weather and sun are what seem to kill these units first. And my 1000+ will handle in/output of NMEA data, so perhaps it's a later model than Steve's.Anyway, the point of the post is to say the 1000+ looks like good gear to me. Good luck on your decision!Jack
