Propshield
Thanks guys,I have used Petit zinc coating for several years with good success. This winter I have the Maxprop off for service and since it is back to its beautiful shine, I was thinking of trying something else to keep growth down. I like to try new things. This is probably not a good year for me to experiment if it is not a known product as plans are to cruise New England this summer. The different waters and the amount of engine time will be great. This is not condusive to measuring the performance of any coating. Two years ago we did New England and the zinc coating did excellent. There was no growth when we got back to the Chesapeake. Last season we did not leave the bay and had growth, but no where near as much as other boats with no coating. If we do not hear that Propshield works, then the zinc will go back on. Over the years we have tried all the fads with no real success (except zinc). The only things that have had any measure of success has been waxing the bare prop with a good German carnauba car wax, and the next year tried a coating of Lanacoat(sp?). Both of these periods were when we were on the Gulf coast with very warm water and lots of engine time.Last season, boats in the upper bay that used Prop Speed did excellent. I was hoping that maybe Propshield would be like it but less expensive and less labor intensive. Its interesting that the two products now emerging are both from England and both are lanolin based. Is it because they have an abundance of sheep there?
