Any California trailer ables out there ?

Lobster hooping, you go out at night, with a pile of hoopnets tied to the foredeck, a couple of miles offshore, cut up baitfish and bait the nets throw them overboard with lighted floats, float around for a couple of hours B/Sing and drinking beer watching the voltmeter drop because the new battery wasn't fully charged
Motor around looking for the floats, pull up the nets:troll: and see what's there. Could be almost anything, octopus, eel, starfish, crabs, and even lobster. Friday night Frank, my wife, and I caught 3 lobsters and a bunch of rock crabs Thanks Frank. We will be sailing this weekend somewhere probably out of MDR, but open to suggestion. Tim

Timo how does Redondo sound to you. We can put the hoops in at Palos Verdes, excellent hooping there I understand. They only have a sling crane there, no ramp. I have not seen a sailboat launched there. We may have to rig up on the water.

I have hooked up with Duane as a result of this forum for a sail ( on his boat) this Sunday.

I hope we are all able to meet and sail together some time.

May be after the first of the year we can try and set some times and places to meet and sail at together.

There for a while I was sailing out of Mission Bay, the first weekend after the Memorial Day Weekend. I didnt go this year. I think the ecconmy / gas prices stopped the group I went with from going at all. I do have one friend who sails a Hunter 170 out of Mission Bay most Sundays.

I think the So-Cal Potter group looks like a fun group too. I've been looking at their web site past events, and the message board.

Do you think a Mac sailor would be welcome? I posted the question to their message board once, got one reply back that it would be okay. But to be honest I feel a little apprehensive about it. After all they are called So-Cal Potters, and I have a Mac26S.

I can't help to think it would be like approaching a Harley motorcycle club with a Yamaha and asking, hey can I tag along with you guys?

I don't know maybe I'm way off. They do look like a fun group though. I guess I could go on an event and see how it goes.

I feel the same way, not being part of the group if your not sailing a Potter. I'm sure they may say come along but your still not a potter owner.

Now if there was a California Trailer Sailor Association where ALL are welcome, that would be nice. I havent found anything like that here, So..............Lets just post dates when and where we are going to be sailing and perhaps a few of us will start sailing together.

I don't sail a Potter, and feel more than welcome. True, they are mostly a Potter owners group, but they have some Montgomery's,(15's, 17's and a 23), a Sanibel-18,(now made by International Marine, who build the Potter's), an O'Day 19, Balboa 16, and now a Capri-18,(me). But most of the boats are small trailerable boats.

I don't know about a "California Trailer Sailor Association", but hmm, there is SBO.com, even have a burgee , website and everything, no dues, meetings, board of directors or anything, but we can set it up here to go sailing together, even set up a social group thingy, did I mention the burgeebtw at least 2 boats are going out Sunday at MDR Tim

Oceanside Harbor has a nice little marina with 24 guest slips. I think the cost is .90 per foot. The launch ramp is great, newly upgraded, with finger docks. Nice restrooms with showers. They make you pay a hefty, I think $30 deposit for a key, but you get it back when you return the key. Several nice resturaunts and shops. You can pay to park in a lot near the launch ramp, not sure of the fee, too much for me. I always park in the free lot, good for 72 hours, nice walk to the guest slips.

From O'Side Harbor you can sail down the coast to Mission Bay, about 34 miles, anchor free at Mariners Basin. Round trip would make a great weekend of sailng. Maybe from there go around Point Loma to San Diego Bay. You can also go north from O'Side to Dana Point, about 24 miles.

Well,

Duane and I met Sunday morning and we set sail about 9:30 am leaving Marine Del Rey. It was cool, no wind and a heavy marine layer as we left the marina.

We motored about for a while, looking for signs of any wind which eluded us most of the day. When we did see some riples the breeze was just a tease, shifting about us and then disapearing.

Later on in the afternoon the sun came out and we were able to sail at about 3.knots

Frank too was out and about as we passed each other on our way back into the marina.

After pulling Duanes boat out and putting all our gear away, we went to El Toretos Mexican resturant for a good hot meal and shared a good conversation before parting ways.

We had a good time and I'm looking forward to our next sail together.

Hey R. Oril,

When I bought my first boat (Hunter 170) I thought I would never sail it in the ocean, as it turned out, I only sailed it at Castaic Lake once in the four years I owned it. the rest of the time I sailed it out of Ventura.

Ventura has nice facilites and you can wash your boat, trailer off when you come out of the salt water.

I like sailing the ocean because I can set a course and hold it for as long as I want. no boundries like in a lake.

Ocean sailing is quiter than lakes, the noise from jet skiers or power boats is almost non exsisting.

I just flush my motor out and hose the boat down and bring her home.

I do find the hot summer days in Castaic dries my teak out but thats simple to touch up.

If you would like to sail out of Ventura some time (on my boat) lets plan something after the holidays, weather permiting.
