Hi ... I just acquired a 1988 Catalina 30, and was told by the surveyor that Catalina Corporation had put out some sort of safety alert/notice regarding the need for adding an anti-syphon "loop" in the head water intake line. How can I obtain a copy of this notice? Alternatively, can anyone give me a clear instruction on what is involved in this corrective piping? Thanks, D E Kirkendall aka Kirk

3/4 " vented loop

Hi there Kirk. I just wrote a similar reply a few posts down. The anti-syphon loop, aka vented loop, needs to go between the pump and the toilet bowl. I don't know the kind of head you have but more than likely there will be a small 3/4 inch hose approximately 18" long running behind the head from the pump to the toilet bowl for rinse water. You need to remove this hose and replace it with a run of 3/4" hose and a vented loop long enough to place the loop above the water level at any angle of heel. Make sure the loop is on the pressure side of the pump and not the suction side, otherwise your head will not pump rinse water. --Greg Note to the Head Mistress: Peggy, I'm not trying to bethrown you as the Head Queen. I recently changed my head (with a lot of help from your posts here) and I like to help here when I can. :)

what about the drain side?

I'm considering the same on my 88 C30. I have also had my head overflow from the outlet side as well, ie: I closed the through hull for the rinse inlet and left the other thru hull open. This has happened with the outlet thru hull open just a crack as well.

vented loop

Hi Kirk - I also have an '88 C30 and was just faced with the same problem - no vented loop. Fine, I thought, I'll put one in. Problem was, I could not find a suitable place to mount it above the water line, let alone when heeled, unless I wanted to place it in plain view on the bulkhead either in the head, or above the port bunk side in the V berth. I gave up, and am making a point of closing the thru-hull when not in use. A hassle. I'll be following responses to your post, and will let you know if I come up with some solution. TMcC.
