I am adding a Class D VHF radio and will be attaching it to my Raymarine C70 / Raystar 125 Chartplotter/GPS via the NMEA 0183 cable that came with the chartplotter. The run from the Nav Station to the helm is approx. 15-20'. The pigtail is maybe 3'.

The jacket writing on the pigtail says LL97744 E129757-C 300V 80°C CSA AWM I/II A/B. I have a partial spool (100’) of communication cable Belden #9929 060 (CHR). It's a low voltage 5 conductor 24AWG 7x#32 TIN CU 80C 30V cable. I used to use this to make long runs of RS232 cable. The Beldon cable seems more robust. It looks to be heavier shielded. For those cable buffs, do you think it would be OK to use this cable as an extension?

Bob,
I have used CAT-5 cable to run NEMA -183 signals 20 ftwithout the shield and had no issues with it. basicly i fed my AIS info from the chart table to the Pc mouned tv/monitor in the salon to feed chart software and show AIS tagets. Also helps with the guest that are always asking " where are we now ? "

lol.

Yes. You'll be fine. NMEA 0183 isn't a very fast or fussy signal. Just make good connections, well insulated, no shorts.
