I am adding a Class D VHF radio and will be attaching it to my Raymarine C70 / Raystar 125 Chartplotter/GPS via the NMEA 0183 cable that came with the chartplotter. The run from the Nav Station to the helm is approx. 15-20'. The pigtail is maybe 3'.
The jacket writing on the pigtail says LL97744 E129757-C 300V 80°C CSA AWM I/II A/B. I have a partial spool (100’) of communication cable Belden #9929 060 (CHR). It's a low voltage 5 conductor 24AWG 7x#32 TIN CU 80C 30V cable. I used to use this to make long runs of RS232 cable. The Beldon cable seems more robust. It looks to be heavier shielded. For those cable buffs, do you think it would be OK to use this cable as an extension?
