I'd like to hear recommendations/advise on a model of a wind speed instrument. We have an '87 and are ready to install something ? Your thoughts etc. will be greatly appreciated.

Raymarine ST-40

We are looking at installing complete instrumentation in our '76 C27. After looking around a lot, I have come to the conclusion that the instruments that seem to me to give the most bang for the buck, and which are viable on a long term basis are the Raymarine ST40's. If you want to spend more, go for the ST60's . . . Raymarine used to be Raytheon, and their instruments have a solid reputation. My interest has been in building over a couple of years a full set of good instruments that will talk to each other easily and which will accept a autopilot without trouble. The best system I have found is Raymarine's, and the ST40's do everything that I want them to do. You might check either Sailnet or www.pyacht.com which is where I have found the best prices. I think Sailnet currently has a sale for the whole package going on. George

Nexus

I had a Nexus 2000 system on my last boat and it worked well and was the lowest priced system available. The wind transducer is different than the others, which are unbalanced. It picks up light breezes when other transduces register zero. Check your marina to see if anyone has a Nexus.
