...and what is not, has been mangled by PO's

Okay I stole this quote from @billjoye from another thread and it was nominated by @Jackdaw as the quote of the year.

... the full quote is

The boat is 30 years old. What is original is breaking and what is not, has been mangled by PO's

So I thought it would be fun to post pics of the mangled messes that we have found in our new-2-us boats.

Here are a few of my discoveries....
This first one is a "stern" light on a Macgregor V21. Well actually it is a cheap licence plate light housing from AutoZone... but hey it looks good... right?

The next three shots are the progeny of a homemade electric panel and the resulting mess. This was on a 1973 MacGregor V22 that I got for $900. I had to gut it.

The next three shots are from a Balboa 26 that I restored. The boat was sold as "ready to sail". First shot is a photo of the furling system and the next is the keel when I found it. I also added a shot of the keel after I fixed it up.

Looks like that furler has a lot of "prebend" in it to flatten out the genny !

I was lucky with my 33 year old free boat in that it hadn't been screwed with too much. Mostly old and original. I have been slowly upgrading bits and pieces as they fail. Next failure on the horizon are the traveler end cap pulleys. the Shieves are starting to shed little bits off of the edges

LOL- Just finished a re do on a 22 footer. The D(dread)PO used iron fittings to attach rudder, among other things. Took a while to make it right

And I've posted this pic before,, but here's my 1961 Rhodes Meridian after being abandoned in a boat yard in Rochester NY for 15 yrs

I am pretty darn lucky the PO before the most recent PO loved his boat, maintained it well and actually did some very clever things. The most recent PO only had it a short time and did very little maintenance herself.
