anchoring Hunter 37.5 Legend

I am researching different ways of handling the anchor line. The Hunter 37.5 has a very shallow anchor locker, so installing a windlass is not the easiest solution. I was wondering if anyone had ever tried attaching a line to the anchor and leading it back to the jib winch. I am looking for the pros and cons.

The manual winch is certainly an option. The handling of the anchor from the cockpit is likely going to be challenging. If simplicity is the goal and you can’t raise the anchor by hand, a windlass becomes a best practice on a boat that size.

The 376 has a similar shallow anchor locker, but the windlass actually drops the chain/rode down into the space under the anchor locker in front of the VBerth. Although there were changes there may be similarities in design between the 375 and 376. It might be a consideration if you're able to add a hole when installing the windlass.

If you're using all, or mostly rode, and the starboard primary winch can handle the rode all you need just add a snatch block or two to the toe rail on the starboard side in order to winch in the anchor. The downside is all the rode winds up in the cockpit. If you go this route add a mark on the line so you can see when the anchor, or chain, is about to come out of teh water. That way you're not pulling the chain across the deck or swinging the anchor into the bow.

I did that on my H38 with a rolling hitch around the chain when I was trying to unfoul it once last year. I don't think it would work well for a regular practice.
