I have recently purchased a 1991 Visiion 32 which I am very pleqsed with. One shortback is that the anchoring system is not that great.

My danforth is kept in a locker at the bow and needs to be physically lifted and lowered over the side of the bow with the chain chafing my deck . Not ideal.

Does anyone know of a prefab or other bow sprint that is designed to accomodate this boat so my danforth anchor can stay on my bow and be lowered appropriately from there?

Until more recent models, Hunter never gave much thought to anchoring. Their designs barely made room for storage of a decent anchor and rode. My H33.5 is similar to yours with one even bigger problem. There is an on-deck locker (storage for a danforth and rode) but it's behind a below deck furler. Getting anywhere near centerline with a roller is impossible.

I have looked at lots of boats and pictures trying to come up with a design for a bow roller, on deck anchor storage and a windlass. I contacted Hunter and was told that my boat was "never designed to have one"; end of story. I hate to say it but my design effort was abysmal. My design called for a SS platform extending off the bow, keeping the anchor locker and door intact and installation of two rollers. To me it looked like a kludge. See attached pics.

I have turned the design/mfg job over to a local marine builder/fabricator. He does great work but I'm sure it won't be cheap. I'm in his work queue and hopefully will see "his" design ideas this week. He has promised I will be on my way south on Nov 1 as planned. I just hope it is with an anchoring system that won't require another rotor cuff surgery.

Wishing you luck with yours.

Check with Garhauer Marine. If you send them some photos they should be able to fabricate something for you if they do not have it in their catalogue.

You may be better luck if you think about changing to a different style anchor too.

I added a roller to my Vision 32. I purchased a roller on ebay cut a acess panel in the anchor locker to get my had inside for the new bolts. I will see if I can find some pictures if you email me dennis_pennington@bd.com.

Roman,

Here's a picture of the bowsprit on my recently purchased '89 V32. If you have one made up, I can highly reccomend this style- it works great.

Erle, I llike the bowsprit on your boat. Do you use a "cruising chute"?

My survey is scheduled for Tuesday, 12/28. I sure hope all is well with the boat. I'll keep you posted.

Holy cow...forgot all about my previous post until now. Attached are photos of the project nearing completion over a year ago. The last photo shows the addition of the Rocna anchor in March 2010. The Danforth moved to the the aft lazarette for stern/emergency anchoring.

The windlass has been a great addition to the boat. It works great, with one minor drawback. The chain must be hand fed forward to keep it from piling up and jamming the windlass. A deeper anchor well or a chain chute through the vberth into the compartment below may be the answer in the form of another project.
