Rad and Terry are combined correct
To anchor in an undesignated anchorage,(an anchor light is only required in an undesignated anchorage) with your tri color, you have to be able to turn off the red/green leaving the stern portion lit. However the forward part of your boat must be lit to complete the 360 degree required by an anchor light. This is achieved by turning on your steaming light(the light that is at or just above your spreaders). When at anchor you have to show 360 degree white light. If you day sail lights are not an issue. Thomas, if you anchor, a 360 degree light is required but it can be supplied by other devises like oil lamps, lanterns, etc. but must be visible for 2 miles.r.w.landau
