My Catalina 27 has no anchor light.. I cant believe they just forgot it when they built it -... must have been a low bridge somewhere in its past. In any event.. any suggestions on wiring an anchor light on a 30 year old Catalina 27 would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. *o

If not needed often perhaps a temporary

light might serve the purpose. A battery operated light run up the halyard combined with "available working or equivalent lights to illuminate her decks" as allowed by nav rules. A light in the cockpit or hanging from the boom is a method employed by many to add some visibility.

Thanks for the tip... I'd like to wire one up on top of the mast if possible..but I agree that a good fallback. Thanks again

Knocked off

I purchased a used 27' and the anchor light was knocked off, just hanging by the wires, I installed a new one and a new steaming/deck light. The wires were there. If the mast is down this would be easy, with it up it would be more dificult but you might be able to fish the orignal wire or add a new one and cable fitting at the bottom of the mast. You can hang an all around white from your boom, I did this on my 22. DavidH

worth a try

Thanks for the tip. I just circumnavigated Bowen and Keats island on the weekend.. My first ??big?? overnighted and it was very enjoyable..and windy on Saturday. I purchased a LED white light for the boom, as you suggested, and it worked great. With the mast up, I guess I'll need to try the fish and grab on the anchor light..although I'm still thinking there's a problem witht the wiring in the ceiling as the bow light (just above spreaders) is till not cooperating.. But thanks for the tips. and good sailing

Bow deck light

The original aluminum forspar bow deck /steaming light that was on my boat was totally rusted inside, I can't belive they used steel sockets. Don't count on the wiring harness colors that are listed in the owners manual as being right (mine were not). By the way, the new forspar light is very bright.

Grifield we must have past one another

I too on the same day circumnavigate Bowen, breaking in my new Merc 9.9 motor. Where did you get your LED light from - Steveston, West Marine...?
