I think that was the entire logic employed by the SF and SD committees. That's got to be a joke.... it is unlikely that they would take it outside a U.S. venue.
Welcome to Bermuda, our 51st state. Sorry Puerto Rico and Guam. That's got to be a joke.... it is unlikely that they would take it outside a U.S. venue.
I'll keep an open mind but I don't see it so far. That sound is full of reefs and in my limited experience pretty limited as far as freedom to sail around. If I remember, there are serious restrictions close to the harbor in Hamilton - just a slim cut to get outside. I don't really see the shoreside viewing either. The windward side of the Rock would probably be great sailing but I don't thing very good viewing. Just my 2 cents and worth about that. They want to do the racing in the sound west of Hamilton, and build a race village, so I imagine the viewing will be pretty good shoreside...not like SF with that long course waterfront, but the TV delay will be a lot better for the Europeans, and the locals appreciate a good sailboat race.
Guess not... just googled it. I thought the whole goal of the new format with modern, multi hull, sprint type racing was to appeal to the masses. Since technology allows the event to viewed more effectively online or via television, locating it in an urban, accessible, viewer friendly area seems to be unimportant .... or.... maybe interests in Bermuda came up with the most bucks$$$$.That's got to be a joke.... it is unlikely that they would take it outside a U.S. venue.
Surprise!that's Got To Be A Joke.... It Is Unlikely That They Would Take It Outside A U.s. Venue.
Now I'm surprised it isn't in the Cayman Islands. That's where a lot of corporate assets may be located. Either that or US sponsors just couldn't see the return . San Francisco was rumored to have taken a bath when it was all over. Still I'm dissappointed that it's not being hosted in the US. The lack of enthusiasm is overwhelming.maybe interests in Bermuda came up with the most bucks$$$$.
Isn't that irrelevant? For the first race it was not even the "America's Cup"; it was not in our possession; there was no Deed of Gift, and the sponsoring club was in Britain where the race was held!! Obviously, the Swiss did not have the race in Switzerland, so I suppose the "holder of the Cup" can have the race wherever it wishes. That's not my point--what yacht club will be involved in this, if any? Will it be an American one?did a little digging here and it seems that the first race was not even held in the US ...so being in Bermuda or out of US waters is not something new......this came from Wikipedia....
"The trophy was originally awarded in 1851 by the Royal Yacht Squadron for a race around the Isle of Wight in England, which was won by the schooner America. The trophy was renamed the America's Cup after the yacht and was donated to the New York Yacht Club (NYYC) under the terms of the Deed of Gift, which made the cup available for perpetual international competition."
to answer your question it will be the...Golden Gate Yacht Club....Isn't that irrelevant? i would think that would be up to the winner ...i think it has a home for nowWhat will they (it) do, I wonder? Provide a home for the Cup, I suppose.
