i just received my 2005 slip invoice (35' stall) for chicago; $3849.00. $21.50 is for utilities from 2004 (power/water) for which we pay a $50.00 meter reading fee (someone explain the reasoning behind that, just pay $50 and dont bother reading the meter). please note that i am going to have a smile on my face this frigid january when i write the check knowing sailing is only a few months away (our harbors are open may 15 to oct 15). what are slip fees in other areas of the country? is chicago the highest (it has to be close)? i could pay less in hammond in. or wintrop harbor to the north but the convience and the cityscape make it all worth while. merry christmas and happy holidays mike

Mike, good for you.

You're proof positive that it takes all kinds. For me, city scape is the last place I want to keep my boat. That would force me to sell. But enjoy your skyscrapers.

We have a Hunter 34 on beautiful Beaver Lake. Our slip fees, you ask? $20/month for club membership and $40.00 for the slip. We are able to sail most every month of the year. Today is sunny, windy, and the temps are in the 60's. (snow is forcast for Wednesday) Merry Christmas, Mike

Mike: It really does not give you much satisfaction know that you pay a premium for your 6-7 mos. of accomodations. We pay $5.75/ft/mo. This is $179.25/mo or $2139/yr. This includes water and power. We also get to use the boat 12 mos. of the year. Now if you want to compare another place with expensive slip fees, we can talk about Lake Tahoe with something like $20/ft/mo plus other misc. charges. So there is always someone that has it worse!

Hope you don't cry when you read this

Here in Maine I have a mooring. It cost me $500.00 back in 1998 for the mushroom anchor, chain & etc. I pay the Town $40.00 per year for the right to have the spot. I pay a guy on average $150.00 each year to dive on the mooring and replace anything that needs fixing. I pay a boat yard nearby $780.00 a year to pull my boat wash it and put it on my own stanchions. They put it back in as part of that fee. I cover it my self (made a prefab frame and use a heavy duty tarp) Takes about one hour. That’s all my costs Total $970.00 per year. My brother uses a boatyard just south of Bangor and pays only $500.00 per year to store his boat there.

Mike, I keep boat at Oakdale Yacht Service. They charge $131 per foot for the season. If you want a finger pier they charge an additional $6 per foot. This includes water, electric, showers and the pool. A great place and well worth it. There is a waiting list. Other places on Long Island run $110 per foot and up, but with less service. You get what you pay for. Fair Winds, Ed

Opps!

I'm happy i pay $600 a season for a 30' including power and water, security. Winter storage is $360 includes power washing the bottom and blocking it in my cradel. I live 12 minutes from the boat and sail everyday during the summer. Who cares about the winter, I need the time to recouperate and get new things ready for spring. Happy Holidays to All
