I think the best laugh I had in "All is Lost" was the building a fire in the plastic water jug. Yeah let's use a petroleum based container to build a fire and then look shocked when the whole raft goes up in flames. I was almost expecting him to perish thus putting him out of his stupidity. That was a movie that does nothing but paint sailors as a bunch of idiots with more money than brains. Again I did enjoy it but more as a comedy of errors.

My two favorite sailing movies to date are 180 degrees South and Hold Fast. The first is documentary I saw on Netflix I think and involves among other things re stepping a mast in the wild. The first half is sailing the rest is mountain climbing but the whole movie is worth the time. Hold Fast is on Vimeo or at blueanarchy.com and calls itself a video zine. When I found I I thought I would watch a little bit but could not stop until the end. Of course deep water is still very good. Oh yea I've no plans to watch "All Is Lost" thanks for confirming my suspicions.

I liked how storm preparation aboard the Cal included shaving. What was that supposed to be for?

He was too cool for storms. When others would panic, Redford shaves.

Also worth checking out Wild Eyes: The Abby Sunderland Story. It's on Netflix, at least in Canada.
