We waited until last night and rented it from Vudu. My 9 year old summed it up best, All Four Dollars Is Lost.

I did not find much of anything redeeming about the movie. The inaccuracies about sailing a boat through a storm was painful to watch. Can someone explain to me how he was going to raise a storm jib over his roller furling? After the impossible raising he just went below? Why would he not have a jack line if he is single handling in the middle of the ocean? why would he repeatedly leave his companion way open during a storm? There are many many more. This is why you have a really good technical adviser. After he abandoned ship everything that happened has been done again and again. The ending was pathetic.

We were looking forward to this movie, there is nothing about worth watching.

I watched the movie. I took it for entertainment value, not technical merit. I enjoyed it. The movie was for the general public, not sailors.

I also watched Captain Phillips. I also took it for entertainment value, not technical. I also enjoyed that.

And I watched Lone Survivor. I was scared to death, I was getting cold chills, I was sweating. Why? Because I was there, not at that time, but that general location. That was not entertainment, that was technical genius.

I wish, but no, just a naked hank on jib. Also the thing was freaking huge. My storm jib is tiny. The technical missteps were so easily resolved, there were just so, so many of them. It is like there was nobody involved with the movie that had ever sailed a sailboat before in foul weather.
Probably the same crew that shot the Viagra sailer commercial. :)

I'm a lake sailor with no blue water experience. The one thing that got me about the storm jib was that he saw the squall coming and started making preparations. Why did he not hoist the storm jib at that point instead of going below and shaving?

Now you have ruined the movie for me.

I honestly believe that at every stage of the movie they wanted to establish that Robert Redford had absolutely no business being out on the water.

They did that with out any shred of doubt.

I woulda loved it being one of those 'dark movies', where at the end a gigatic ship runs over him and ends it all.

Really.

We rented it last night and we actually enjoyed it. It kept our attention through out the movie anyway. Just check your sailing IQ at the door and enjoy. Kind of refreshing to see a movie where the entire dialogue script could have been written on a post-it note. Lots of things that have me scratching my head too but will keep it to myself so not to be a spoiler.

I also had a forced viewing of Patton but it was Fort Knox.

After reading the book and then seeing Life Of Pi last year
I decided I was more of the Master and Commander kinda guy.

I've taken All is Lost off the bucket - thanks for the heads up four dolla kid.

Went to see the Robert Redford movie All Is Lost last night and found it very entertaining. It's more about survival than sailing but liked how he portrayed a sense of calm in what I would call a panic situation. Would recommend it.
I saw this and Captain Phillips. I thought Redford did an excellent job of conveying his sadness of losing his boat. Worth seeing.

Captain Phillips was a great movie too. Tom Hanks is just so good and the story is interesting even though we all know the outcome.

I watched this movie and felt like reaching into the movie to give him a slap up the head.

Redford was up for a golden globe, which I couldn't believe and

Alex Ebert got Best Original Song Golden Globe Awards 2014 'All Is Lost'

I don't even remember the music?? Sheeeesse

Unbelievable!
