I am toying with the Idea of installing A/C in my 1981 Hunter 33.. I was going to try to install it through the plywood bulkhead at the rear of the rear port quarterberth ( behind the nav station). Sears has a very small window unit with a remote control that should allow you to make adjustments from the gally or main cabin. The warm air should exhaust to the area under the cockpit and any excess moisture should drip into the bilge. Does anyone see why this $150 investnent wouldn't work.. at least at the dock with an abundant supply of 110V AC? Does anyone have experience using a small portable gas generator on board? Thanks..

Tried That On A Hunter 30

Hi, Years ago I owned a Hunter 30 and I tried the same thing. I used the teak plywood panel as a template and cut a regular plywood panel that had a slot for a 6,000 BTU window A/C. The cooling worked fine, but there was too much heat build-up in the cockpit locker. If you try this, you might need to supplement with fans to move hot air out and cooler air into that compartment. Might be worth trying with a bilge blower and some 4" vents. Gary

Hey, I use one in the companionway....

and no installation is needed. Mine just sits right there just above the steps and is small enough to step over. Just brought it back home for the winter, but easy to set in place and no cutting needed. Works great, cools the entire boat with just a couple of hours needed from high heat of July days to get it really comfortable. I have not had any problems with drainage either. Mine is a GE 5500 BTU cost at sams club about 118.00 and it works and fits prefect.

Generator

I use a Honda EU2000 on my H34, runs the A/C just fine. Great generator, very quiet.

How much air ?

I hate to piggy back but was wondering how big the air conditioner is that Dave Shore is running with that Honda 2000 generator. Thanks

Where do you put it?

Where do you put the generator while it is running so that there is no carbon monoxide problem? What would you expect to pay for one of those small Honda generators?
