After talking to Catalina Product Support, I have decided to replace the bowsprit on my C-27. By using my jib halyards and the support of the lower shrouds, my mast should be O.K. when I disconnect the forestay (according to them). I'm curious about the weight of the boom and mainsail. Has anyone been through the same ordeal?

Shouldn't be a problem.....

... I've changed forestay with a man aloft. I tied of the jib halyards to the pulpit, used the spin halyard to lift, main halyard as back up....but, if you're concerned why don't you just take the sail off and disconnect the boom?

Congrats

On a job well done - I really feel that replacement was the way to go on that item. BTW - give that thing one hell of a varnish job on all exposed surfaces before installing - it will save you lots of grief in the long run. I don't think you will have any probs with Catalina's recommendation - I would feel comfortable with that. If I were to do it myself, I think I would run a 6 foot line from bow cleat to bow cleat, and then attach the jib halyard to the middle of this line. That should keep things out of your way - but again, I haven't done this myself, so I would check into it. Anyone out there done this before? I know lots of you trailer your boats from time to time- what do you do? Rob
