I have just purchased a Hunter 28.5 1986 and want to find out why a previous owner might have cut out areas of the port side aft berth. I know the cockpit hoses and drains may need to be accessed, so that explains the bulkhead cutout but not sure why the flooring was cut through where the hull to liner look to be re-epoxied. Guessing the bulkhead broke free at some point?

Is the hull New glass. I can see the bad glass work of the bulk head. If redoing I'd add access panels just out of 1/4" ply. And trim out real nice. You got a lot of sanding to do to clean up that glass work

My guess would be that they made the cuts to try to access the cockpit drain scupper. They can be difficult to replace.

Is the holding tank back there. They may have replaced the holding tank.

Well, as described above, there was a leak, previous owner cut away liner and filled with caulking. That didn't work.

I cut more away and i DID find the leak in the rudder post. Now I'm re-glassing. I've posted updates above that shows the progress.
