I have an O’day 22 that I am finally finishing up. The person that I got the boat from got the sail from a sail loft in new England. I was told that the sail needed to be cut but it shouldn’t be that bad. So, I took the sail to the local sail loft and they just called me to tell me that the sail is a perfect fit for an O’day 25 and they think it is a mismatch since it has the origional sailmakers name on it and it says Oday 22 on it. I have been trying to contact the sail loft that made it but I still haven’t spoken with the owner after a couple polite messages requesting a call back. I have also emailed him and requested a call back. When I put myself in there shoes, I don’t see the need to help me since they didn’t make it for me. But the person who I got the boat from said he ordered the sail for an O’day 22. I have the brand new sail for an O’day 25, sunny weather, and not enough money to buy a new sail. What would you do?

your problem is with the previous owner...

...not the loft. They made the sail for him and he accepted it. There's more to this story than the seller has told you. If he bought the sail legitimately the loft would have made good on the fit. In any event, it is his responsibility to resolve the matter with the loft rather than pass it on to you. I would demand the previous owner make good on the sail by paying for the recut or replacing it. Take him to small claims, if you have to.

Let the buyer beware.

You really should have checked before you wrote the check. Hope it works out for you. Tom s/v GAIA

Interested in selling it?

If you're interested in selling it, and it really is for an O'Day 25, I may be interested in buying it. Email me at hparsons@parsonsys.com
