Blue Water Capable

Good Old Boat started a series this month on selecting blue water yachts. This would be an excellent primer on what you should be thinking in regards to a boat. There are a number of other great magazines that will support your quest for knowledge. I have a Mac 25, you need a heavier boat for the trip you describe. Don't squander GM's money, but don't deny yourself some adventure before you commit yourself to the man.

In Poor Taste

I read all the posts and in fact was one of the early responders. Although I thought the thing was suspect from the very beginning, as I indicated in my post, I did respond, as did others, in what I thought was an effort to provide some information to sombody who was terribly uninformed. I really don't think anyone was out of line in their responses, unlike the infamous Seadance thread and some others I recall. I do think it was in poor taste and it seems to have offended some people like Princess who's original response was well thought out and from the heart, I hope she didn't mean it when she said she's off the forum.

Hopefully this prank will

allow people to examine their responces and do some soul searching, as to how they respond to others. It was good for a laugh, I must say. Thank you for a fun Friday joke. Maybe we can do this every Friday. Kinda like a friday fun fact. Keep it up, Ctskip

"Kyle" if it doesn't work out

wait for your great aunt to croak and maybe just get a place on the beach in Mexico for a few months. Climbing Mt. Rainier at age 15 was a good comeback.

Not on a Mac

A Mac or a Hunter would be no good for this trip. You need a Catalina. *666

I frequently bring a violin and a nylon string

guitar when I am on my boat for an overnighter. If it is a quiet anchorage or marina the instruments usually come along for the ride. If it is a noisy place we can make as much noise as we want and still not wear the ship's batteries down. This is all true. When I read the initial post I was quite convinced that something was amiss. Cell phones at sea? in a Mac 26 (no letter specified)? I did not chime in as there was just too much stuff for all the folks on this forum to have fun with. But spinning our wheels for the fun of it or even to teach us a lesson is not a very admirable pursuit. I am always nice to newbies or wannabies and I am quite tolerant of all the 'thingy' references as the language of boats is pretty daunting. I for one learned nothing from your baiting post as I do not like to flame people but you were asking for it. Admittedly some of your concoction was humorous but please leave the naive questions to those who are. My suggestion is to turn off your computer and go sailing or whatever it is you enjoy doing instead of trying to outwit, outplay and outlast the sometimes testy knowledge base on this board.

Sandsailors option

sounds like a good one. It might be worth your trouble to find someone who does boat deliveries. You could leave your money in the bank, and go out and get a real education. To crew under a captain with international delivery experience could be a tremendous learning platform, and I believe it would not be long before you would know just how you would want to set up for a cruise of your own.

Hoax master.... get a life?

Kyle.....You prove absolutely nothing. You are neither clever nor profound. You simply waste time for those who truly want to help others. I agree with Seadance, though I will continue to follow this forum. I will also warn that it will quickly go downhill if this nonsense continues. The main issue here is this: The forum is open to all levels of experience, in fact we encourage novices to participate and post questions. So... all questions posed here, no matter how simple or naive they may seem, must be treated as truthful and honest inquiries. If not, the integrity of the forum will deteriorate to a level where the sincere members will feel ridiculed and choose to move on to other forums that won't tolerate this kind of childs' play. People, let's keep our minds right and not let this forum go down the dark path of Jerry Springerism. PS isn't it interesting how many people have responded to Kyle's post even after it was disclosed as a hoax?..... What does that tell you? Frightening...

Joe , It is very difficult for me to give serious

consideration to anyone who will write three paragraphs about a prankster wasting his time. Almost all of us are wasting time here in some fashion. I enjoyed several hours of internet searching for information about someone's desire to cruise the Savannah river. I am not going to make that trip and if I were not inclined to waste time i wouldn't have made the effort. Sitting around and telling tall tales with friends is also a waste of time IF you have better things to be doing and WOULD be doing them. Joe, A little nonsence is good for the soul. have a little fun. Enjoy life.

Funny joke but...

The next time someone (could very well be me) posts a somewhat silly question, everyone might be inclined to jump all over them even more thinking they are just a prankster again. So, even though "Kyle's" intentions may have been good, the plan may backfire. As for the original post, I thought the whole thing was so absurd, but definitely not out of line for a 22 yo male. I was one not too long ago. Not quite that brazen, but still. When I realized it was a hoax but hadn't been outed, I was going to suggest he stick with what he knows and get a nicely equipped sunfish and sail that instead of a Mac. hehe

I was planning

on circumnavigating non-stop on my kitesurfer via the 5 capes. Do you think I could carry enough powerbars, fishing gear and a watermaker to handle this? What'll I do for sex (I'm only 19 you know)? I'm excited, sounds like a fun trip on spring break next spring!! Gotta go catch some air now!!! :)

Dear Nut, I don't see why that's a problem

we have Cape May, Cape Henlopen, Cape Charles, Cape Henry, and Cape Hatteras. But if the wind goes calm you just might stop anyway. A rendezvoux could probably arranged for conjugal purposes.

I laughed so hard!!!!!!

This is a good one. I once rented a go-cart, do you think I am ready to race Indy or maybe Daytona? What kind of tires should I use? I hear diesel fuel is cheaper, should I chose a truck? Are trucks considered stock cars? Thanks for the help. LOL, good one.

Dear Nut, Remember that to qualify as a solo

voyage no one is allowed to set foot on your vessel and you may not step off yours. You may not accept assistance from another party but I suppose that if she were eating a candy bar and you kissed her that might not qualify as assistance. As to the conjugal visits if we could get the video.................

Don't get the wrong impression. While the folks here might seem to be a little rough on you, I know they really care and just don't want to see you end up as a mission for the US Coast Guard. You just have to realize that your post was SO focused on the wrong stuff that we either thought you where pulling our leg or where surly headed for trouble. I hope you can get it together and make the trip. Harbor hopping all the way I think you could do it. But there are some other things to think about. First and foremost let someone you trust know when you will be going and when and where you will be stopping along the way and when you expect to finish. It's called a sail plan and should something bad happen they can at least get the search and rescue folks into the right 10,000 square miles of ocean. some other stuff Know how to use a compass and do basic navigation. If you don't know what "red on right returning from the sea" means, find out. Buy the charts for your trip. yes they are expensive but there ain't no road sighs or gas stations to pull into the get unlost. Where are the harbors/anchorages I'm going to stay each night? It ain't like the interstate where you can just pull over. There are stretches where you could go a couple hundred miles and not have a place to anchor. At 5 knots that is 40+ hours. How deep is the water there and what are the tides (height and current)? There are lots of places that look like they would be OK at high tide but they go completely dry 12 hours later. You need charts to tell you this stuff. How much fuel will I need and where can I get more? While there may be harbors in abundance there may not be any that have facilities like fuel. Charts help here too. This and all the other stuff folks have talked about are just the tiniest scratch of the things you need to know to "go down to the sea in ships" Good luck and keep asking questions.

Bill if a place looks good at high tide then

twelve hours later it will look great again, BUT in six hours the bay of Fundy will look like a very large mud flat. ;)
