Adhesive Decking(or give me an idea)

Hello!
I have just taken ownership of a 25 ft O'Day that has had a repair to the fiberglass surrounding the mast stay(Forgive me if my terminology is incorrect, I am learning, it's where the mast is attached to the top of the cabin) . Structurally its all good, and the repairer did a nice job with the final finishing.
However, I have seen some pictures of a nice rubberized finish, as well as some faux teak.....

And I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with any of this stuff.
Or any other finish that would hide teeny surface cracks etc. I would consider using the same product inside to hide some of the dated yellow finish on the floor etc

I see it on a lot on power boat stern platforms. Probably works okay, but don’t expect it to look like real teak (or real anything).

Go with the clean modern look of rubberized finish. Faux wood just looks like something trying to be what it is not. Nothing wrong with letting plastic look like plastic.
Sorry, but no experience with the stuff, but it is easily replaceable if it doesn't work for you.

Congrats on your new boat and welcome to the best sailing forum on the web. You are already getting good advice on the rubber finishes. You might also consider anti-skid paint.

BTW: That word you were looking for that describes the bracket that holds the mast to the cabin top is Tabernacle.
You can remember it this way. A tabernacle is a dwelling place of the holy or sacred and what makes a sailboat a sailboat (sacred) is the fact that it has a mast. And the mast "dwells" in the tabernacle.

The cockpit of my 1981 O’Day 28 is covered in tread master. I’ve owned the boat for 5 years and don’t know how long the material has been there but it doesn’t stain and is very non-skid. I had two delamination spot repairs on the deck and put treadmaster step pads on them. Sticks well so I hope to never have to remove it. You can see it at Jamestown Distributors.

Kiwi grip is good and pretty easy to install. Its water based so clean up is easy and it works well when the directions are followed.

Jroon.....from one newb to another, Welcome Aboard! And I will second a previous comment about this being the best sailing Forum on this here inter-web thing. (I tried other ones, no comparison)
Its a great place to hang and chat about sailing when your not out actually sailing. And these guys have taught me a ton in just a few short months.
Its also a great place to bounce ideas and get second opinions, but ultimately its up to you. I am a big fan of wood, but not a big fan of fake wood. I have also had way too many bad experiences with adhesives that are supposed to work but really dont hold up. Anywhere up on the foredeck is not a place you can lose your footing or have some shifty adhesive underneath your feet. If it was me, I would consider some of the coatings that others have mentioned. Just my .02 and Congratulations on your new to you 25 footer!

Wow!!! You guys are awesome!!! I went from no clue to intriguing options in an aftn!! Thank you so much! I am sure I will have many more questions as I navigate the rough sea that is my sailing ignorance(rgranger, thank you for the "Tabernacle" info!!). I will do my best to search first as to not repeat threads. Next up will be interior floor finishes, inner hull cover ideas, and shore power options. But first I gotta find a trailer to get baby home.

And congrats on the O'day 25. I really enjoyed ours for 5 years.
I would think Kiwi Grip would be your best bet for non skid areas.
Seadek is real nice but a bit pricey. I'd consider it for a cockpit or cabin floor but not on the deck. That can get real expensive quick.
I've been thinking about the Lewmar Treadmaster Non Skid Deck Covering for the floor of the head on my boat. Glad to hear about its durability.

For areas other than non skid, I think it would be hesitant to make repairs on minor spider cracking as a repair can look worse than the spider cracking. If you talking about the repaired area around the tabernacle, even if it is not non skid now, you can use the Kiwi Grip to cover slight cracking or other imperfections.

OK, that looks nice. Now, the other contrasting dark areas on the hatch and the deck, is that paint?

No, that’s not paint. It’s original fiberglass nonskid. Those spots which were repaired just forward of the shrouds were delaminated in the fiberglass layup and not cracked but bubbled up. The core did not get wet and in fact when the bubbles (slight humps actually) were opened it was dry inside. You can’t slice it open and lift it up because it is so stiff so it just breaks. I sanded the edges, filled with epoxy and covered with the treadmaster.
