Has anyone put a cockpit drain in the forward area of the H23 cockpit? As you know, when the boat sits on the trailer over the winter, the bow is slightly lower. Some water collects in the cockpit after a rain. My plan is to put a Tee in the "flexable" hose that leads from the drain in the back of the cockpit, and put a new cockpit drain in the forward area of the cockpit. I would run a hose back to the Tee. Has anyone done this to the H23? I did the same thing on my previous boat, an American 17 (If anyone has seen this boat they will know what I am talking about.) It had a very poorly designed cockpit with a built in cooler compartment that could not drain. The built in cooler would fill with water and leak into the cabin of the boat, which then caused dry rot problems. Obviously Hunter is far more advanced than that boat, but I think it would be convenient to not have to bail the boat in the spring. Any comments. Thanks in advance. Bill Leathen

drain

The biggest headache has been the drain in that cockpit floor as it is recessed into a lower level from the floor with which trash but most notably leaves clog that drain causing the cockpit to fill with water. I have seen others actually put a boom tent over which seems to help but your question is another drain. Yes, I have seen drains put in. One was in the floor of the cockpit forward about a foot exiting on the starboard side at the same height of the other drain. The other was above the other drain draining behind on the transom. It is possible to T into the existing drain but what ever you do, make sure fittings are tight and use of caulk is a must. The other item is to check the boat more reguarly so leaves will not clog that drain unless you were caught with waves crashing into the cockpit which the boat should not be out in that type of weather.

The simplist solution would be to raise the front of your trailer to allow water to drain out the existing cockpit drain. And yes, check to make sure the drain is clear of debris. Jim Kolstoe, h23 Kara's Boo

yeah

I've heard it both ways, but yours is probably the original. Either way cuts through to a simple answer. As has been said here before. K.I.S.S. (Also underlying the principle of why work hard when an easier solution gets the same result.) Jim Kolstoe, h23 Kara's Boo
