A serious question.

Is there a sailor alive who actually likes the song "Sailing" by Christopher Cross? I had one of my favorite XM stations on the other night when it came across the airwaves. While it induces a vomit reflex in me, I stuck it out without changing the channel, hoping for redemption. It came with Sundown as the next offering. "Sometimes, I think it's a sin when I feel like I'm winning when I'm losing again" ... Love that line.
Back to "Sailing" ... it also got me wondering if anybody has ever done a cover that makes that song palatable.
Ok, don't be afraid to speak up if you like it! :cowbell:

I don't like it. Never did. It's not the lyrics, it's the way it's sung. I'll bet Jimmy Buffett could make it more palatable

Well, it's not far down to paradise, at least it's not for me
And if the wind is right you can sail away and find tranquility
Oh, the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see.
Believe me.

It's not far to never-never land, no reason to pretend
And if the wind is right you can find the joy of innocence again
Oh, the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see.
Believe me.

Sailing takes me away to where I've always heard it could be
Just a dream and the wind to carry me
And soon I will be free

Fantasy, it gets the best of me
When I'm sailing
All caught up in the reverie, every word is a symphony
Won't you believe me?

Sailing takes me away to where I've always heard it could be
Just a dream and the wind to carry me
And soon I will be free

Well it's not far back to sanity, at least it's not for me
And if the wind is right you can sail away and find serenity
Oh, the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see.
Believe me.

Sailing takes me away to where I've always heard it could be
Just a dream and the wind to carry me
And soon I will be free

Okay... I'm going to get flamed but I'm not a fan of Southern Cross either.

But it's C,S&N man. I thinks it's a generation thing for me. Brings back memories :p
Yes I know... and I knew I was going to be in the minority on that one....and I'm a big C,S&N fan myself.... but something about the line "80ft of water line" just ruins it for me. Not even sure why.

And while we are on sailing songs we don't like...

Anyone here actually like "John B. Sails".:laugh::laugh:

But I'll admit I like Kokomo.

Do I get kicked off the forum if I was to say it is on my ipod? Not saying it is, just asking what if it was :)

You're going to have to come up with something good for redemption. I know you can, though!

I have Sailing as an instrumental played by Eric Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops. It's on an album called SAiling that is my favorite go to music when at anchor.

I think Justin had it right when he said "It's a generation thing." I'm probably showing my age but I happen to like it.

There are some fans! Yes, I do like "John B. Sails" and "Closer to Home", too! I guess there's no accounting for taste!

I just change the 80 to 18 when I sing it. People never know what hit them LOL!

Don't care for it much although I like the lyrics.

I do like Southern Cross, and Wooden Ships.

Also Rod Stewart, "Rhythm of My Heart", I just love the tune and the line "Where the ocean meets the sky I'll be sailing" (although the lyrics aren't really about sailing... actually, I can't make much sense of the lyrics, but then that's the case with most music for me. I'm too literal I guess.)

Creedence Clearwater... Aerosmith... Wagner - Ride of the Valkyries ... Shania Twain... The Eagles... to name a few. Much better than "SAILING"... Buffet is good but I find myself reaching for the Tequila.
