Beneteau's are great

As a three time Beneteau owner, First 285 "Arctic Knight", First 35s5 "Good Omen" and now First 47.7 owner "Freedom", I can recommend this line very highly. As one of probably very few three time purchasers of a vessel of the same manufacturer, I am VERY satisfied with all of our Beneteau purchases from Sailing, Inc. Tom D. I think you'll find quite a few people

with multiple (three and four maybe even 5) purchasers of a vessel of the same manufacturer out there. I know many, many 3 time owners here in just our local Catalina group LISCA (Long Island Sound Catalina Association). This doesn't even take into account the rest of the country out there, but from the catalina sailnet list, I can tell its more common than people might expect.

Super Maramu by Amels

The boat I want is the 53 ft Super Maramu built by Amels in France. Three years ago it was priced at about $500K all found, a real bargain. Now with the decline of the dollar it is $600 K. I have seen the boat at the Annapolis Show and cherish the handsome brochure. It's as close as I will ever get -- now. But three years ago had we sold all our securities we could have bought the boat for cash and today would be way ahead of where we actually are. Sob!

Peter, your last name sounds German, not French.

Why the attraction to Super Maramu's? I've checked out new ones and found nothing to be standard marine stuff. Everything was reinvented by the French to be 'French'. That's what they do. (besides orbiting around money)

Peter, I was on

one of those Super Maramu, a 53' ketch and I agree they are really a super boat. There was an article on Mr. Amel in one of the sailing magazines a while back. At that time he was well into his 80's and still building. Do you know if they only come with a ketch rig?

Open water capabilities

a earlier post asked the question about Ratings, I look at the websites alot, and have noticed that for instance. the hunter 34 feet and above are CE A rated. So my question is this, do the High end boats have a differant rating system? i noticed a few people mention that Hunter/Cat/Bent are not open water capable. As a ignorant landlocked wannabe passagemaker, what is the differance? Yes i can tell the differance in joinery from the pictures of the matching wood grain, and Teak "veneer" floors. But what has that got to do with a boat that is built to industry standards, not being Capable? Dont mean to still anything up, just a question.
