A better View from my new Helm Seat

Never really liked the lack of visibility after mounting the chart plotter. So I came up with this. Gets me up for a safer view and I can easily walk through by tilting it sideways. It just clears the back stay to fold completely out of the way. Total cost $150 W.M. Chair and Base. I built the mount out of Corian which I already had scraps of and all the SS hardware I had. At an extreme heal it may be a bit uncomfortable but if I flip the foot rest up, I can stand and lean back on the seat comfortably.

Great job! Next you need a seatbelt. I'm sure one of the "sages" on this site will have the correct reference. LOL

Where's the ladder?

Looks very interesting...and it certainly get you up higher...but do you need a step ladder to get into that saddle? How do you get into that chair?

Looks very nice, but a word of caution. A year or so ago a guy went off the stern on the Columbia River with similar rig and disappeared before his kids could get the boat turned around.

It was a maintenance thing, not necessarily a fault with the design. I believe they decided the bolts holding the chair had failed or pulled through the deck, can't remember which.

Standing it is butt high... No step ladder needed. When not seated it is a nice cozy spot to stand with the seat providing a back stop.
