Hello all,

The reefing blocks on our '87 P31-2 have decided that years of sun have become too much and the sheaves are crumbling. (It's contageous - the jib sheet reefing blocks simultaneously disintegrated last year). The double block at the vang is a most unique arrangement. It attaches to the pin (and holds it in place) in the mast fitting via a swivel. I have seen nothing like this in catalog or on website. It seems much smaller than a Garhauer 30 size capable of the 1/2" line, but is similar to their 30-17 block.

Has anyone replaced that block on their Pearson and, if so, what did you use?

I also need to replace the blocks at the mast collar. Again, the Garhauer 30 size seem to be overly large but the 1/2" line and strain would call for that. Has anyone swapped their out and, if so, with what?

Thanks much,

I replaced the original Garahauer mast blocks under warranty (Garahauer had a 10 year warranty) with Garahauer mast blocks The white plastic on the orginal block deteriorated after about 5 years. The replacements are now 15 years old and are holding up very well. They new blocks are a little bigger.

Give Garahauer a call they are very helpful. I can recommend their solid boom vang. They custom made the fittings for the boom and the mast to match what was already on the boat.

For the reefing block, I used a triple Harken block that I had laying around.

I'm a big Garhauer fan. Solid vang, replaced the main sheet blocks, adjustable genoa blocks fit to the Schaefer track. 1985 P-34
