I am trying to replace my outhaul on my Hunter 2005 420 but cannot find the specifications for type and length. Owner's manual does not have it nor can I find it in the Selden website/manuals.
Anyone have a good reference?

Odd your owners manual, as well as mine, did not list the outhaul specications. I replaced my 2005 furling mainsail outhaul with 70 feet of 3/8” diameter Samson XLS Extra. To confirm the exact length for your 420, attach a tag line to the end and pull it through, remove the old line, measure, purchase new line and install by reversing the process with the tag line.

Yes, furling mast system.

That was the backup plan if no one knew the length. thanks

Uhm, the outhaul on my 356 was continuous (Perhaps that's why no length is specified). Nevertheless, I replaced it with a high tech ultra low stretch line. It made a world of difference in the sailing characteristic of the boat. Specifically when a gust of wind would hit, the line would stretch very little and instead of the sail becoming deep, powerful and drag laden, it would remain flat. The boat would lean over and then come back up with acceleration as it's supposed to do. I would advise that you get the best line you can get for this important sail control.

You can calculate the total length of the existing line by measuring the various sections and adding them up. For example, measure from the eye at the end of the line to the clew of the sail, and from the clew back down to the outhaul car, and from the car out to the end of the boom, and from the end of the boom to the mast, etc. all the way back to the cockpit. If you're nervous about your calculation, add a few feet as a safety margin.

I used this technique on all of the running rigging that I recently replaced and it worked out fine.

That is what I finally did. replaced with no issues. BTW 70ft is the correct length.
Thanks all
