Autoprop doesn't fit 380

Autoprop don't fit the 380. Check the archives and read my tale of woe regarding autoprop when i bough my new 380 in 1999. Even though they show a picture of a 376 in their brochure it still won't fit... go figure. Maxprop's the only answer, unless you wanna cut a chunk out of your strut. Can you believe autoprop wanted me to do theat on a new boat? Sorry Bob Knott Hunter 380

410 ditto

Had the same problem with my 410 a few weeks ago. Installed the autoprop but noticed that the blades would hit the strut when reversed. Autoprop suggested I install a shaft saver to add one inch of clearance. I had a better idea, and sent the Autoprop back. Installed a fixed three-blade prop, and am thrilled with it. My two-blade OEM prop vibrated excessively at 2800 rpms, but this new one runs smooth even at 3400. Warp speed.

Autoprop-Diver Looks

I had a diver look when my autoprop was reinstalled on my 37.5 . He noticed that only when when one went from forward to neutral and the to reverse was there a problem. We also noticed that if you counted to 3 prior to shifting from forward to neutral then to reverse (I count from three after going to neutral) the prop did not come close to the strut. It's sort of strange. But that's what I do and it works. So be it!

Don't confuse different boats

Don't confuse a 37.5 with a 386 and 380. The 376 and 380 are vutually identical under the water as they share the same hull. The 37.5 does not share any family resemblance under the water. The overlap on the 376 and 380 is over 2" where the blades hit the strut when going to reverse. No amount of time can cure that, and cutting a 3" chunk out of your strut doesn't seem to be a wise choice. What a shame autprop doesn't acknowledge this until after you buy it, install it, and whack it into your strut. I often wonder why they put a 376 in their brochure, knowing the prop doesn't fit it? One of the strangest tales of my boat owning experience. Bob Knott H380
