We have an intermittent rain water leak in the forward cabin. Water enters the cabin from a point where the upper teak bulkhead meets the liner i.e. the lower corner of the top bulkhead. To date we have been unable to locate the entry point. This is not a desired option on the Wet Coast! Has anybody any ideas for a cure? Colin

Colin, we own a P42. There are few places...

in the forward cabin area where water can enter. Check and either rebed or reseal the following: 1. Forward hatch(s). 2. Handrail attach points. 3. Mast step. 4. Any other through deck attach points. We had a leak in the forward cabin, too. I resealed the forward hatch and hand rails last year with 3M 4200, which stopped the leak and it has not returned. Terry

I HAVE THE SAME LEAK - Had it since I got the boat

Dont go crazy! As you can see I HAVE! 2.5 YEARS looking for these leaks! Im 90pct sure its your windows. I have talked and talked to my dealer over and over. He said he sealed everything, pressure washed the area to see if he could find the leak, etc. I went nuts since I got the boat. Imagine buying a BRAND NEW boat and when it rains it leaks! So each year, at great expense sailed back to the dealer, each season same thing, and then this season disaster. Contact me at sailwriter@yahoo.com . I am trying to work with HUNTER and my dealer now to get this fixed. Dont let it go long. Last winter I BEGGED the dealer to fix this. They ignored me and this spring that wood wall in the salon was ruined!!! Its an awful eyesore, will affect resale and has already ruined many books and a gps that were on that shelf. Ok how I found my leak. Run a mere trickle of water around your windows. One by one. Top and bottom. That is how I found my leak. Water Pressure on the window is not the point here; a trickle allows for the water to seep into where the seal is broken, perhaps in some capillary action. Also check the bolts that hold your mast plate, place a trickle of water around those bolts too. VERY often they are loose and will leak as well. Keep us posted. I had heard from other Hunter owners from another dealership that these windows and their seals have leaked, but my dealer just could not figure it out. How old is your boat? When did the leak start? Try pressurizing the cabin with a clean shop vac..

You run the shop vac in reverse. I removed the top board in my companionway and sealed the vac hose in place with tape and cardboard. The vac creates pressure inside the cabin and then I went above with a squirt bottle with a mixture of liquid soap and water and searched for the leak. A buddy suggested this to me and it worked well on my 25.5

Jib car track can leak also

After buying our Hunter 30 I solved many leak problems by re-bedding the the jib car tracks. Many of the screws were not bedded at all.

Rain Leak

I have now located this leak. Entry point was through the starboard side of the Bow Rail at the point where it extends through the deck with the wiring for the bow navigation light. I sealed the screw on the base plate and the problem seems to have been solved. Thanks to everyone who responded with helpful suggestions. Colin
