323 Stuffing Box Seal

Hey Guys...
There is a nut inside the flange, it isn't the same size as the one on the transmission end; it is a bit bigger. I can't remember the exact size. It is obviously metric... don't even try SAE here you'll just strip everything. Once this nut has been removed you will probably need a puller to pull the flange off the shaft and it is here that there is very little space to work with; I had to get a lower profile puller (and heat & a mallet) to get the job done. The pic is of a 393 but the flange & shaft are similar though the stuffing box isn't.
Working all this under the rear cabin bunk isn't easy: the first thing I would do is get the mattress and bunk boards out of there and wait at least until it gets warm enough to spend a while in the boat without freezing. Between working and "gofering" it took me the better part of two (3) days to get the job done!

Sorry to bring up an old thread here.. can anyone with a Beneteau 323 tell me if this stern tube area looks factory or of this is some kind of repair? It just looks odd to me..

Looks factory. See pics below of the old fitting and upgrade I made when hauling out earlier in the year... I retapped the hole to a larger size (3/8" IIRC), used a 316 stainless (not brass) fitting, and built up the area surrounding the fitting with thickened epoxy.
