I have just bought an O'day 322. We are very excited to get it in the water. I am scheduled to get wet Monday or Tuesday. I have noticed that everytime it rains I get am getting a puddle all the way aft in the aft stateroom. I opened up the rear bulkhead and pulled the panel out that covers the Edson steering cables. I had my son go topside and start pouring water all over the cockpit floor... no leak yet. Then I looked where the water lines were on the back side of the bulkhead... Ah ha! I had him them pour water on the hump where the hole for the emergency tiller goes. I kept the cap on. I waited a few miniutes and sure enough... there it was drip, drip... I saw water dripping slowly from the quadrant where the rudder post goes up through to the emergency tiller hole. I took a plastic bag and covered the hole... I taped it down with duct tape. It rained all night and all today. IT IS STILL LEAKING!!! I am not sure what to do. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? Any help would be great. Warren

leaky aft cabin

I have a similiar leak and though I have never thought of the emergency tiller hole as a source, I did find that placing a cover over the compass minimized the leak. The seal around the compass seems to seep water. Though that helps, I still sometimes find that the cushions get wet near the aft end of the bunk on the underside. I now use a blue tarp under the cushions and that keeps the wet off the fabric. Bill

leaks

Warren, When we purchased our 27 a while back we discovered water during heavy rain. In our case we found that the hull liner was a bit damp, the water (or most of it) was seeping in around the toe rail and lifeline stanchions, rebedding cured most of the problem, I eventually rebed every piece of deck hardware and.... 99% of our leakage dried up. I guess a little bit of moisture is normal. It can be a little fustrating, just find a starting place and go with it. good luck, RichJ

thanks

Thnaks guys. I see where it is leaking now. I will keep you posted as to what I do to control it. I wish that I could just route it to the bilge... It's not that easy :( Anyway, thanks for your advice. Warren

Where was it leaking (answer)

The leak seems to come from the emergency tiller hole. It woks down the rudder post and on the quadrant where the steering cable is routed around. then spills on the back side of the rear bulkhead. Eventually dripping out there. Also, I found that the raised area where the panel that covers the steering in the ceiling of the aft stateroom some minor water came out of the screw holes after I had pulled off the panel. But I never saw that area leak before. I hope that this helps. If you cime up with any clues let me know. Warren
