Hi, Closed the s/w intake valve yesterday and a few drops of water came past the valve handle. A 2008 model I am surprised to see this already. I cant see the brand name. Does anybody know the manufacturer of these seacocks? On my next lift I am wondering if I can just replace the top section (the valve body) without disturbing the actual thru hull fitting. Does seem like removing the 4 top screws may enable this but I will need an exact replacement of course .Being in oz might be an issue to get the correct valve replacement so a manufacturer or part number would be great if anybody has replaced theirs. Cheers

I replaced the ball cocks on a couple of the intakes two years ago. This year, while opening one, I noticed a bit of wet. Closing the valve again, the top part of the assembly came off in my hand.
There was a hairline fracture in the assembly that allowed a tiny bit of water to come through. What isn't stated here is that if the assembly had been installed such that the flange was on the bottom, ie; the ball assembly was contained in the top portion of the body, there would have instantly been nothing stopping the ingress of water.
Subsequent inspection revealed that it was indeed a manufacturing defect, the crack was 2/3 the way around the part, and there was no way whatsoever to have seen it prior.
Please pay attention to any water coming in, it could be a harbinger, and the one thing that is apparent, the stuff isn't made the way it was 20 years ago!

I would contact Catalina and ask them where to get a replacement valve. That's the nice thing about a builder that's still in business.

Hi,

I wouldn't simply remove those top four screws, yet. Please review this:

They should be Marelon, should be available down your way. They should NOT be like the ones in meriachee's photos, which appear to be bronze, and while even on a Catalina, bronze was definitely NOT a Catalina OEM part. :)

Does seem like removing the 4 top screws may enable this but I will need an exact replacement of course .

The Seacocks are made by Forespar and as Stu says they are made of Marelon. They have replaceable O-rings, but should not be done in the water unless you use the white plug that is attached to the middle of the seacock. This plug is designed to be placed in the thru-hull on the outside of the boat if in the water.
If you remove the screw that holds the handle in place (not the four screws on top) you have to be very careful to get the orientation right when assembling, which is why it is not recommended to do this job in the water.
You may want to consider joining the C320 forum as there are several posts on this topic along with pics. Owned a 320 for 12 years and did have to replace an O-ring on a couple of my seacocks.

Thanks guys, looks like the ones. Just have to match the model with the correct base. And yes, I do nothing with thru hulls unless I am on the hard stand.
